Director of Parks and Recreation

Christine Carney brings over two decades of dedicated leadership and public service to her role as Director of Rockdale County Parks and Recreation. With a passion for enhancing community life, her journey began at just 16 as a camp counselor, leading to a lifelong career in Parks & Recreation that spans five cities across Florida and Georgia.

Christine's career includes a notable ten-year tenure with the City of North Miami, where she served as both Assistant Director and Director. There, she significantly enriched the community’s quality of life by expanding recreational programming, special events, and facility management to serve residents of all ages.

In her current role, Christine is responsible for the strategic direction and daily operations of Rockdale County’s extensive parks and recreation offerings, including programs, event space rentals, concessions, historical sites, and maintenance of all facilities. She manages a team of more than 85 full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, focusing on professional development, service excellence, and operational efficiency.

Christine holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Community Leisure Services from Georgia Southern University. She is a committed leader who continually strives to improve departmental policies, streamline processes, and ensure accessible, high-quality recreation services for all.

Beyond her professional commitments, Christine is an active member and volunteer with numerous regional and national parks associations. She’s also a dedicated community volunteer, a two-time recipient of the City of Atlanta’s Heart & Soul of the City Award, and a graduate of multiple leadership development programs.

In her free time, Christine enjoys traveling, watching sports, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends.
