Chair JaNice Van Ness to Deliver Inaugural State of the County Address Focused on Rockdale’s Future

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – On Wednesday, April 23 at 9 a.m., Rockdale County residents, business leaders, and community stakeholders are invited to attend the 2025 State of the County Address, to be delivered by Chair JaNice Van Ness at the Rockdale County Auditorium, 903 Main Street, Conyers, GA 30012.

Chair Van Ness will outline her administration’s vision and strategic priorities for the year ahead, with a focus on core issues that impact every corner of Rockdale County—including transportation, infrastructure, economic development, and sustainability. The address will provide updates on administrative operations, ongoing projects, and new initiatives aimed at strengthening the County’s economic vitality, improving public services, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. “It’s essential that we preserve the rich resources and heritage of Rockdale County while embracing changes that build upon our foundation and lead us to an even better County,” said Chair Van Ness.

Key highlights of the address are expected to include updates on transportation improvements, small business support efforts, long-term planning initiatives, and intergovernmental partnerships.

Chair JaNice Van Ness was sworn in on December 15, 2024, becoming Rockdale County’s first female chair of the Board of Commissioners. She previously served as a Georgia State Senator for District 43 and held the position of Rockdale County Commissioner for eight years.

Hosted in partnership with The Council for Quality Growth, the event is free and open to the public with no ticket required.

SilverSneakers Launch at Johnson Park Recreation Center

Conyers, GA, March 4, 2025 — Johnson Park Recreation Center, located at 1781 Ebenezer Road, SW, is partnering to provide complementary memberships to members of the nationally recognized SilverSneakers^® program. Through this collaboration, Parks & Recreation will launch the SilverSneakers^® program Monday, March 10^th. SilverSneakers^® program offers older adults (65 & over) more opportunities to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active. SilverSneakers by Tivity Health^®, is the nation’s leading community fitness program designed exclusively for older adults.

Johnson Park Recreation Center is situated in the heart of Rockdale County’s Johnson Park. As the county’s sole designated recreation center, it offers a variety of excellent amenities, including meeting rooms, outdoor softball fields, an indoor pool, two gymnasiums, tennis courts, a fitness center, an indoor walking track, a Resource Opportunity Center (ROC Room), a playground, and more. The center’s hours of operation are as follows:

Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM-6:00 PM

Rockdale County Chair Hosts International Women’s History Month Tea

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Chair JaNice Van Ness will host her inaugural International Women’s History Month Tea, celebrating the outstanding achievements and contributions of women throughout history. The event will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the J.P. Carr Community Center, located at 981 Taylor St., Conyers, GA 30012.

International Women’s History Month honors the progress women have made in all aspects of life and serves as a time to reflect on their strength, resilience, and continued fight for equality. This year’s theme celebrates the contributions of courageous women driving positive change in industries and communities – ‘A Tribute to Women in Leadership.’

Guests will be treated to a unique tea experience and will enjoy a variety of handpicked teas paired with a buffet of seasonal treats, making it the perfect setting to relax, connect, and be inspired. This thoughtfully designed gathering offers the perfect opportunity to relax, mingle, and savor moments of inspiration while honoring the remarkable women who have shaped our world.

The event will spotlight the county’s historic all-female Board of Commissioners: Chair and CEO JaNice Van Ness, Post I Commissioner Tuwanya Smith, and Post II Commissioner Doreen Williams.

The event will also feature a panel of dynamic leaders who will share their personal challenges and triumphs in their respective fields. Their stories will offer powerful insights into the paths that women have paved and the hurdles they’ve overcome on their journeys to leadership.
