The Great American Cleanup is the annual spring cleanup event in association with Keep America Beautiful.

Hundreds of volunteers collect trash and other debris around the community during the Great American Cleanup. KCRB uses the Great American Clean up as an instrument to promote recycling and the importance of litter prevention.

Rivers Alive

Rivers Alive is a joint program of the Georgia Department of Natural Resource’s Environmental Protection Division and Keep Georgia Beautiful Campaign. Rivers Alive is held annually in the fall and draws hundreds of citizen-volunteers to clean up the waterways in Rockdale County.

Purpose & Goals

• Engage individuals, community groups, businesses, faith organizations, schools, etc. in litter reduction and beautification of public roadways, medians, and public rights-of-way
• Promote community pride and stewardship
• Reduce county/city costs for litter cleanup
• Raise public awareness of litter prevention

Program Structure & Options

1. Adopt-a-Road (Adopt-a-Mile):

• Adopt one (or more) contiguous mile(s) (or segment of road)
• Commit to cleaning the adopted stretch at least 4 times per year

2. Adopt-a-Spot:

• Smaller areas (e.g., intersections, medians, traffic circles)
• Quarterly cleanup (4 times/year)

Eligibility & Area Types

Adoption may be allowed for areas such as:
• Road shoulders, rights-of-way
• Medians, traffic islands, intersections
• County-owned properties adjacent to roadways
• Bus stops or transit shelters not already maintained

Volunteer Requirements & Program Policies

• Cleanups must occur at least four times per year
• After each cleanup, the group submits a cleanup report (e.g., date, number of volunteers, bags collected, hours, notes)
• Annual audit or review of adoption areas to verify compliance
• If a group fails to meet the cleanup schedule or neglects maintenance, their adoption may be revoked
• Participants may withdraw voluntarily with advance notice (e.g., 30 days)
• Reinstatement requires a new application and review

Supplies & Support

• The program (administered by the Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful Council or its partner) will provide supplies: safety vests, gloves, litter grabbers, trash bags
• Participants request supplies in advance (e.g., one week before cleanup)
• After cleanup, filled bags are collected by county/city sanitation or a designated pickup mechanism
• Signage: for each adopted stretch, place a sign that acknowledges the adopting group’s name and that the area is maintained under the Adopt-a-Mile program
• Safety training or orientation for volunteer leaders

Application
• Interested parties submit an application form (group name, contact, area of interest,
alternative stretches)

Promotion & Recognition
• Publicize adopted stretches with maps and signage
• Recognize volunteer groups annually (e.g. in council reports, website, press releases)
• Provide certificates or plaques for participant group

Beautiful Business of the Month / Year

All nominations are accepted until the 20^th of the month.

Businesses will be considered for the award based on the following criteria:

• Clean
  • Absence of trash, exterior dirt /mildew
  • Generally well- maintained and tidy appearance
• Sustainable
  • Incorporates sustainable practices such as water and energy-efficient features
• Flower Beds/Planters
  • Placement
  • Contents and Style
• Design/Color/Creativity
  • Yard art and or exterior artwork (Murals, Sculpture, Topiary, etc. )
• Landscaping
  • Weed maintenance
  • Proper pruning
