Rockdale County Parks & Recreation to Host Atlanta Dream “Power Her Dreams” Girls Basketball Clinic

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Parks & Recreation is proud to partner with the Atlanta Dream to bring the “Power Her Dreams” Girls Basketball Clinic to the community this summer. The free clinic will take place on Tues., July 8, at 1 p.m. at Johnson Park Recreation Center, 1781 Ebenezer Rd SW, Conyers, GA.

Designed for girls ages 6–14 of all skill levels, the Power Her Dreams initiative focuses on building confidence, courage, and community through the game of basketball. Participants will engage in high-energy skills sessions, fun drills, and teamwork challenges led by experienced coaches and staff.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our youth to connect with a premier WNBA organization while developing skills both on and off the court, right here in their backyard,” said Rockdale County Parks & Recreation Deputy Director Tahira Wilson. “We’re excited to provide a positive, empowering experience that encourages young girls to stay active, build confidence, and dream big.”

The clinic is free of charge, but space is limited. Families are encouraged to register in advance to secure a spot.

Rockdale Water Resources Hosts Its First Water Fun Day in Honor of Water Week

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale Water Resources (RWR) is proud to host its first Water Fun Day on Sat., May 9, from noon to 4 p.m. at Wheeler Park, 1400 Parker Road, Conyers, 30094, in celebration of Water Week. This free, family-friendly community event highlights the importance of water in our daily lives while bringing residents together for a day of fun, education, and engagement.

Water Fun Day will feature a Kid Zone with interactive games and activities, a Touch-A-Truck experience showcasing utility and public safety vehicles, and a variety of community vendors. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with Rockdale Water Resources staff to learn more about water conservation, infrastructure, and the role we all play in protecting our local water resources.

Food vendors will be on site, offering a range of food and beverage options for guests to enjoy throughout the event. This event reflects Rockdale County’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship, public education, and community engagement. Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend and take part in this Water Week celebration.

RWR is also seeking volunteers to support Water Fun Day by assisting with the various stations and interactive activities throughout the day. Those interested in volunteering, please reach out no later than Thurs., May 7, for more information.

EPD Declares Statewide Drought Level 1

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has declared a Statewide Drought Response Level 1 due to ongoing dry conditions and impacts on water resources.

At this time, no mandatory water use restrictions are in place for Rockdale County, but all customers are strongly encouraged to voluntarily conserve water to help protect our shared water supply.

What You Need to Know:

• Outdoor watering is still allowed before 10:00 AM and after 4:00 PM
• No additional local watering restrictions are currently in effect
• Small conservation efforts now can help prevent stricter measures later

How You Can Help:

• Water lawns only when needed (about 1 inch per week)
• Fix leaking faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems
• Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
• Turn off the hose when washing cars or use a shutoff nozzle
• Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks

Your cooperation helps ensure a reliable water supply for our community, especially during dry conditions.

Upcoming Lane Closures and Detours for Courtesy Parkway Extension Project

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Department of Transportation (RDOT) will conduct full lane closures on Courtesy Parkway to safely perform work on the project from Mon., May 4, 2026, through Sun., June 7, 2026.

During this work, drivers will experience a full closure of Courtesy Parkway just north of the Peaks Landing Apartment Complex. Access to businesses and residential areas will be provided at all times. Travelers are strongly encouraged to use the marked detour routes during this full closure of Courtesy Parkway.

Please note that this schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions. Drivers should anticipate delays and seek alternate routes if possible. A map of alternate routes is attached.
