ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Fire Rescue invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of Fire Station #5 on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

The event will take place at the newly renovated fire station location and marks an important milestone in the county’s commitment to public safety and emergency services. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly celebration.

Attendees will enjoy complimentary hot dogs, cookies, and refreshments while exploring the newly renovated facility. Children will have the opportunity to play in inflatable bounce houses, making this a fun outing for the entire family. The event also provides a chance for residents to meet their local firefighters and learn more about fire safety and emergency preparedness.

“We’re excited to open the doors of Fire Station #5 to the community we serve,” said Deputy Fire Chief Richard Pickens. “This newly renovated facility enhances our ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies throughout Rockdale County.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony represents the county’s ongoing investment in infrastructure and emergency services to better protect and serve Rockdale County residents.

Chair and CEO JaNice Van Ness will be in attendance and will be available after the ceremony for community conversation.

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of Johnson Park’s new inclusive playground during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, January 13th at 4:30 PM.

The state-of-the-art playground has been designed with accessibility and inclusivity at its core, ensuring that children of all abilities can play together in a welcoming and engaging environment. The new facility features accessible equipment, sensory-rich play elements, and barrier-free pathways that accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices.

“This playground represents our commitment to creating spaces where every child in our community can experience the joy of play,” said Christine Carney, Director of Parks and Recreation for Rockdale County. “We’ve worked hard to design an environment that brings children together, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.”

The inclusive playground includes equipment such as adaptive swings, ground-level play components, tactile and musical elements, and shade structures to ensure comfortable play for all. Safety surfacing throughout the playground provides a smooth, accessible foundation that meets ADA standards.

Community members, families, local officials, and project partners will gather at Johnson Park for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Light refreshments will be provided, and children will have the opportunity to be among the first to enjoy the new playground following the ceremony.

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) is proud to announce the launch of its annual Christmas tree recycling initiative, “Bring One for the Chipper,” providing Rockdale County residents with an environmentally responsible way to recycle live Christmas trees after the holiday season.

The initiative will kick off on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Rockdale County Recycling Center, and will run through January 10, 2026. Residents are encouraged to bring their live, undecorated Christmas trees to be recycled and diverted from landfills.

To celebrate the kickoff event on January 3, the first 50 Rockdale County residents who pre-register and drop off a tree that day will receive a free tree seedling, generously provided by the Georgia Forestry Commission, while supplies last. Available seedlings may include White Oak, Bald Cypress, and Catalpa.

How to Register:

Residents must email kcrb@rockdale26.soliademo.com to pre-register. Registration emails should include the participant’s full name, phone number, and preferred tree seedling species. Seedling requests will be honored in the order received and are subject to availability.

The initiative is open to Rockdale County residents only. The January 3 kickoff event and seedling distribution are weather permitting. Any weather-related updates will be communicated through KCRB’s official channels. All trees must be free of decorations, tinsel, lights, nails, and tree stands. Trees collected through the initiative will be chipped and recycled for beneficial reuse.
