Rockdale Animal Services Relaunches Meetings Focused on Transparency and Progress

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Animal Services is relaunching its community meetings to discuss updates on animal services, stats from the previous year, and upcoming projects. This public meeting will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at JP Carr Community Center, 981 Taylor St., Conyers, GA, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents, pet owners, animal-related businesses, rescue organizations, and advocacy groups are encouraged to attend and participate in the conversation about the future of animal services in Rockdale County. The meeting will provide an overview of department achievements, current challenges, and new initiatives in development.

“We’re excited to re-engage with the community and provide a transparent look into the work we’re doing for Rockdale County’s animals,” said Ciji Baker, Deputy Director of Rockdale County Animal Services.

This meeting is a chance for residents to ask questions, give feedback, and explore ways to get involved. Rockdale County Animal Services is proud to support both animals and the community.

Rockdale County to Host 2025 Rivers Alive Cleanup at Black Shoals Park

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Grab your gloves and get ready to make a difference! Rockdale County will host its 2025 Rivers Alive Cleanup on Saturday, October 11, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Black Shoals Park.

Rivers Alive is a statewide initiative led by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. Its mission is bold: to clean and preserve more than 70,000 miles of Georgia’s rivers and streams.

This year’s Rockdale cleanup is made possible by the support of Rockdale County Parks and Recreation, Rockdale Water Resources, Rockdale County Code Enforcement, Rockdale County Stormwater, and Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB). Volunteers will be equipped with gloves, safety vests, masks, and water, and will receive a commemorative Rivers Alive t-shirt (while supplies last).

“Our rivers and streams are the lifeblood of our watershed, supplying drinking water, supporting wildlife, and shaping the future of our community. Every volunteer plays a critical role in protecting these resources and helping to ensure Rockdale County remains a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful place to live,” said Kimbry Peek, Director of Rockdale Water Resources.

Rockdale County to Host Paper Shredding and Electronic Recycling Day for 2025

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB), in partnership with Rockdale County, will host the annual Paper & Electronic Shredding Day on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1400 Parker Road, Conyers, GA 30094. The free, half-day event is open to Rockdale residents and Business owners only, offering a safe and secure way to dispose of sensitive documents and select electronic items.

Paper Shredding: Citizens are limited to (4) four banker boxes per vehicle, on a first-come, first-served basis.  A Cut Above Shredding, a professional paper shredding company, will have two trucks on site to provide on-site shredding. All items will be securely handled under the close supervision of government staff.  Please note that once the shredding trucks are full, shredding services for the day will end. Make sure to remove any binder clips, adhesives, and other non-paper materials before drop-off.

Electronics collection will be provided by Work4Eli, a professional electronic recycling company, which will be accepting certain items for secure off-site disposal, including Christmas lights. Please note that electronic disposal will not take place during the event.  Additionally, residents may drop off electronics directly at Work4Eli’s facility (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.) at no cost. Certificates of destruction are not provided for general drop-offs.  The following items will not be accepted at this event: CRT/box TVs/ computer monitors, hazardous materials, large household appliances, or kitchen appliances without electronic components.

All participants must present a photo ID as proof of residency in Rockdale or a business address. This event is weather-dependent. If inclement weather occurs, the shredding trucks will be rendered inoperable, and the event will be rescheduled.

Volunteer Opportunity

KCRB is actively seeking volunteers to support the event. Volunteers are vital to ensure smooth operations and may assist with:

• Supporting setup at 8:00 a.m. and breakdown until 2:00 p.m.
• Directing traffic flow and helping residents unload boxes and bags
• Sharing recycling and environmental resources

Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful Returns with a Fresh Vision

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners is proud to announce the reactivation of the Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful Advisory Council (KCRB), a citizen-led initiative dedicated to enhancing the appearance, health, and environmental stewardship of our community.

After being inactive for several years, KCRB is officially back in action as of early 2025. The Council consists of citizens appointed by both the City of Conyers and Rockdale County Board of Commissioners, working in partnership with local departments, businesses, and residents to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Rockdale.

KCRB’s Mission and Impact

The mission of KCRB is to engage the community in initiatives that improve the quality of life through beautification, litter prevention, recycling, and environmental education. Past efforts of the Council have included:

• Hosting County-wide Shredding Days to promote recycling and protect against identity theft.
• Organizing Rivers Alive clean-ups and other litter-prevention campaigns.
• Coordinating beautification projects at local parks, gateways, and neighborhoods.
• Partnering with schools, businesses, and civic groups to encourage environmental awareness and volunteerism.

A Community Partnership

Commissioner Tuwanya Smith emphasized the importance of KCRB’s return:

“The Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful Council represents the heart of what makes Rockdale strong—our residents, businesses, and local government coming together to make our community cleaner, greener, and more welcoming. KCRB meets on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the C.E. Steele Community Center, located at 1040 Oakland Ave SE, Conyers, GA, and welcomes all interested community members to participate in meetings and upcoming events.
