Rockdale Planning Commission

The Rockdale Planning Commission conducts public hearings, receives studies and reports from staff, reviews requests, and makes recommendations to the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners (BOC) concerning the matters brought before them.

The Planning Commission reviews recommendations from the Department of Planning & Development and prepares recommendations on the following requests:

Text Amendments:
- Comprehensive Plan;
- Unified Development Ordinance.
Map Amendments:
- Future Land Use Map (Comprehensive Plan):
  - Application.
- Rezonings (Zoning Map):
  - Application.
- Special Use Permits:
  The Planning Commission recommendations are then presented to the Board of Commissioners at their Zoning Public Hearing. The Planning Commission Meeting Schedule provides the date of the Zoning Public Hearing. The Board of Commissioners will then vote on the requests at their Voting Session.
  
  The Planning Commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Rockdale County Assembly Hall or Auditorium, except in the event of lack of business, in which case a public notice of the cancellation will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting.
  
  All meetings are held at the Rockdale County Assembly Hall, 901 N Main St NW or Auditorium, 903 N Main St NW, Conyers, GA, 30012.

Planning Commission Members

The Planning Commission is made up of five members. All five members must be residents of unincorporated Rockdale and are appointed by the BOC. Three of the members initially appointed to serve on the Planning Commission shall serve for a term of three (3) years each, and the other two members initially appointed to serve on the Planning Commission shall serve a term of four (4) years each. Thereafter, each person appointed to serve on the Planning Commission shall serve for a term of four (4) years each, the intent being to have staggered terms for membership on the Planning Commission. Each person appointed to be on the planning commission shall serve for the term the member was appointed for unless the person dies, resigns, or is otherwise disqualified from serving or removed from said position.

No member of the Planning Commission will be eligible for more than two (2) consecutive terms.

Appointments shall expire on July 1 in the last year of the term.
